Available Services to Homeowners

The Forestry Division provides private property tree inspections to homeowners in Bismarck. A fee of $50 per half-hour is charged for calls on private property (more information below under Private Property Tree Inspections).

There is no charge for the following services:

  • Inspection for Dutch elm disease
  • Inspection of boulevard trees
  • Permit to prune or remove boulevard trees
  • Permit to plant boulevard trees

Private Property Tree Inspections

Private Property tree inpsections are unavailable at this time.  

Boulevard Planting Permit

The Forestry Programs Coordinator is available to permit boulevard trees at the homeowners request. There is no charge for a permit to plant boulevard trees. Fill out the online Tree Planting Permit form and we will schedule an appointment. Note: It is not necessary to be home during the permitting process. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Forestry Division at (701) 355-1700 option 3.

Diagnostic Self Help

Tree Health and Care (Sick Tree Assistance Form) - The ND Forest Service Forest Health program provides statewide surveys to assess threats of our trees and forest resources.  This page includes a Sick Tree Assistance Form that can be filled out with details and photos of the tree problem and submitted online.  

Insect and Disease Management Guide for Woody Plants in North Dakota - This guide provides diagnostic aid and management practices for very common, frequently noticed and particularly problematic insects, mites and diseases of trees and shrubs in North Dakota. Published by the NDSU Extension Service.

Dr. Apple Tree - This interactive guide published by the NDSU Extension Service helps to identify problems specific to apple trees.  

What's wrong with my plant? - This guide published by University of Minnesota Extension helps to diagnose problems in the yard and garden caused by insects, diseases and nonliving factors.
