Overview

Any person doing commercial tree pruning or removal work in Bismarck must obtain a Commercial Arborist License by following the requirements below:

  • Arborist Certification:
    • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist OR
    • Arborist Certificate issued by the City Forester - Requires passing a written competency test administered by the City Forester.
  • Insurance:
    • Commercial General Liability:  $2,000,000 each occurrence
    • If doing contract work for the City of Bismarck, for the duration of the contract the Contractor shall acquire and maintain acceptable general liability insurance in the amount of $2,000,000 for each occurrence for both property damage and bodily injury, automobile liability in the amount of $2,000,000 per occurrence and shall name the City as an additional insured with waiver of subrogation on the policy.
  • Fees:
    • Arborist Certification Test: $75.00
      • If failed, must wait 90 days before testing again. $75.00 fee each time the test is administered.
    • Annual Licensing Fee: $75.00
