Responsibilities of the department include:

  • Creation, distribution, and maintenance of spatial data within Bismarck city limits and its extraterritorial area
  • Promoting collaboration and sharing of GIS data and resources with outside agencies and consultants working on projects within Bismarck
  • Producing maps and applications using GIS data to support the city's operational functions
  • Providing support to city staff in applications of GIS
