[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to a fire at single family residence.

Flames

Bismarck, ND – At approximately 7:36 AM on Sunday, June 5, 2022, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a fire at a house on the 100 block of E Avenue C.  The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. Fire crews observed heavy black smoke while in-route to the fire.

The first arriving fire crew found a two story, single-family home with heavy fire involvement.  Fire command was established and a scene size-up was conducted.  There was heavy fire and smoke at the front of the home with fire exposure to the neighboring properties.  Fire crews contacted the residents of the home, who were able to confirm that everyone had evacuated the house.  Fire crews pulled a hose line and went into the house to fight the fire, while additional hose lines were used to protect the neighboring properties.  The fire crew found the fire had spread throughout the ground and upper floors of the house.  As additional fire crews arrived on-scene they pulled hose lines for extinguishment, established a water supply, and secured the utilities.  When the fire was extinguished, and the house was ventilated of smoke, an overhaul operation was conducted to find any remaining smoldering materials.

Seven fire department apparatus and 20 fire fighters were dispatched to the scene.  The Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control.  Metro Area Ambulance provided medical support. Crisis Care Chaplaincy and the American Red Cross are providing support to the occupants of the home.

The home was occupied at the time of the fire.  The occupants of the home were alerted to the presence of the fire by a neighbor, and all were able to safely evacuate.  One occupant of the home received a minor injury while exiting and was treated at the scene.  The occupants reported having three pet dogs in the home. During a search, fire crews found one of the dogs deceased but were unable to locate the other two dogs. There was significant fire and smoke damage throughout the entire structure.  A fire investigation of the origin and cause of the fire is under way.
