[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Wins State Water Contest for Best Tasting Water

City of Bismarck Water Utility Professionals and Bismarck City Commission 2019

Bismarck's water was named the best tasting during the North Dakota Rural Water Systems Association's 33rd (NDRWSA) annual conference. The winner of the state-wide competition was announced in an effort to identify the tastiest water in the state. The NDRWSA provides technical, managerial and financial assistance to aid municipalities and rural water systems in complying with the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Water Act.

Nineteen large, small, and rural water utilities from around the state submitted samples of their water straight from the tap.  Conference attendees narrowed it down to four systems – North Prairie Rural Water District, East Central Regional Water District, R&T Water District, and the City of Bismarck. Bismarck’s water was chosen as the most appealing by a panel of judges, consisting of Geoff Slick of AE2S, Kristi Brunner of Bartlett & West, and Kent Watson the President of the National Rural Water Association. The City of Bismarck supplies water to the City of Lincoln, the University of Mary, United Tribes Technical College and a portion of the South Central Regional Water District .

The competition is part of a “Quality on Tap!” campaign to emphasize the high quality, standards and consequently, taste of rural water. Winners of the state contest will compete in a national contest on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.  This event is part of the NRWA Rural Water Rally, an annual legislative event for the 50 state affiliates of the National Rural Water Association.

Water utility team members were recognized by Eric Volk, Executive Director, ND Rural Water Systems and the Bismarck City Commission during the Tuesday, March 12, City Commission meeting.

Congratulations to our team of water professionals on achieving this distinction!
