[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to house fire.

At approximately 1:25 PM on Monday, January 21, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a fire at a residence on the 2000 block of North 5th Street.  The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate.  

The first arriving fire crew reported a single family home with smoke showing from the exterior.  The fire crew established command, and made contact with Bismarck Police Department officers on scene who reported that the occupants were out of the home and sheltering in a patrol car.  The fire crew conducted a scene size-up and found the house filled with smoke but not visible flames.  Fire crews deployed a hose line to the front door and went in to investigate.  Fire crews found a large amount of smoke but no flames in the structure.  A search of the home was conducted and fire crews found smoldering materials in one of the bedrooms.  Fire crews extinguished the smoldering material then conducted an overhaul operation to find and extinguish anymore hot spots.  When the overhaul operation was complete the home was ventilated and a fire investigation was conducted. 

Four fire department apparatus and 15 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.  Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control and sheltering the occupants of the home.  Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support.  MDU was called to the scene to secure utilities. The American Red Cross was notified and is providing shelter for the displaced family until the home can be occupied.

The building was occupied at the time of the fire.  There were no injuries to the occupants of the home.  The occupants of the home were displaced by the fire.  There were no injuries to first responders.  There was moderate smoke damage to the interior of the home and fire damage was limited to the area of origin.  The area of origin was identified as one of the bedrooms.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
