The Bismarck Mayor’s Human Relations Committee recognized Natalia Beal, a fourth grade student from Northridge Elementary School for her outstanding entry in the Human Rights Essay and Poetry Contest. Students in grades 4 – 6 were invited by the Bismarck Human Relations Committee to write an essay or a poem about human rights. Natalia’s winning essay was titled “Don’t Abuse or Kids Will Lose” and discussed children’s rights and how human rights are the rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled.
Natalia was recognized by Mayor Warford at a ceremony held January 18, 2011, 5:15 p.m., First Floor Conference Room, City County Building, 221 N Fifth Street, Bismarck, where she was presented with an award for her essay. Mayor Warford also recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and encouraged residents to rededicate themselves to the principles of respect for human rights and freedom, of belief in non-violence, and of commitment to improving our City and nation through community service.
The mission of the Human Relations Committee is to protect and promote the personal dignity of all Bismarck citizens and to eliminate any discriminatory barriers that prevent them from reaching their full human potential.
