Update 2 pm: A barricaded subject is believed to be armed in a building in the 3200 Block. of E Thayer Av. SWAT has been activated. Please avoid the area. We will update when further information is available and every half hour.
Update 2:30 pm: Male individual. Police have confirmed he has a weapon.
Crisis negotiators called in and are on scene. Attempting to make contact with the individual to resolve peacefully. Police will be on scene until the situation is resolved.
Apartment dwellers in this area are advised to stay in their apartments. Don’t come out. Don’t attempt to contact Police Department. Go to an interior room. Close window shades. Stay where you are at. Stay safe by staying indoors.
3:15 pm Update:
SWAT team has deployed gas as a non-lethal attempt to draw individual out. Giving commands to individual to come out. Hoping that he individual will give himself up.
In negotiation stage with the individual. Asking that he come out. Had to take it up a step to move the process along.
Seeking clarification on the warrant that was being served. Police are keeping the situation contained. Those close to the situation are safe as long as they stay in place. No evacuation has taken place.
If apartment dwellers in the area would have an immediate need to get out of the building they should call 911. Police will take steps to assist.
