[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Human Relations Committee Announces Humanitarian Award Recipient

The Bismarck Human Relations Committee has selected, The God’s Child Project as the recipient of the 2010 Humanitarian Award. The God’s Child Project was presented with the Humanitarian Award by the Bismarck Human Relations Committee and Mayor John Warford on Dec. 10, 2010, at 12:15 p.m. at the City County Building, fourth floor Mayor’s conference room, 221 N Fifth Street, Bismarck. Mayor Warford will proclaim Bismarck Human Rights Day, Dec. 10, 2010.

The God’s Child Project, led by international educator and human rights leader Patrick Atkinson, was selected for their leadership and continued efforts to educate others in the areas of human and civil rights. The God’s Child Project is a worldwide social movement that involves thousands of volunteers in dozens of countries to permanently remove individuals, families, and entire communities from the crushing cycle of generational poverty. The Project maintains a strong presence in North Dakota and around the country. Each year, hundreds of Americans volunteer to build homes in Guatemala and countless volunteers help the Project’s Bismarck office collect food, clothing, and medical supplies to distribute to nearby Indian reservations and local homeless shelters.

The Bismarck Human Relations Humanitarian Award honors an individual, business or organization that has exhibited leadership in the areas of human and civil rights with a focus upon recognizing those that educate, identify issues and address human rights concerns. The mission of the God’s Child Project is to “Join together to assist God's poorest children in their educational, social, physical, and spiritual growth. They view education as a practical way to help poor children escape from an otherwise painful life… and believe they have the responsibility to behave honorably and to respect legitimate national, spiritual, and environmental law. They also recognize the opportunities and help they have received from others, and try each day to help someone with a need greater than their own.”

The mission of the Bismarck Human Relations Committee is to protect and promote the personal dignity of all Bismarck citizens and eliminate any discriminatory barriers that prevent them from reaching their full human potential. For more information please visit www.bismarck.org
