At 8:22 PM, Oct. 6, the Bismarck Fire Department responded to a report of fire in a duplex at 2021 Koch Dr. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered fire coming from a lower level window and the deck on the upper level, on the back of the house. Two firefighters entered the front of the house and went to the lower level and extinguished the fire in the basement bedroom. A second crew went to the upper level and extinguished the fire on that level and prevented it from spreading through the attic. A third crew took a hose line to the back of the house and extinguished the fire on the outside. The firefighters were able to contain the fire to the south unit of the twin home.
A chaplain for the Crisis Care Chaplaincy Program provided care for the occupants. The residents in the south unit will be displaced by the fire and the residents in the north unit will be displaced for one night as a precaution. The Red Cross has provided temporary housing assistance to the displaced family. No occupants or fire personnel were injured.
The fire damage was limited to the south unit of the duplex. Preliminary fire loss estimate to the building and contents is $250,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
