[ARCHIVED] American Red Cross Announces Great Shout-Out for Volunteers

The American Red Cross is announcing the “Great Shout-Out for Volunteers” effective immediately. The Chapter is looking for people willing to take shifts in the shelter for 8-12 hour periods while shelters are open in the coming months.

People need to participate in a four-hour training and pass a background check to be qualified for this volunteer effort. Ideally, there will be at least 150 people who can be available to cover all shifts. Training includes topics such as confidentiality, registration, and guidelines for serving food. There is no charge for Red Cross shelter training.

Employer groups, church groups, and other types of groups can take the training and be scheduled to work together in the shelter. Individuals may also take the training and do not have to be part of any group. In a major event, there could be as many as four shelters open in Bismarck and Mandan, and we really need your help.

Please call 223-6700 if you are willing to take shifts in the shelter for 8-12 hour periods while shelters are open in the coming months.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people in the community to continue to support their friends and neighbors impacted by the flood,” says West Dakota Chapter Executive Director Janel Schmitz. “It is an important contribution to our Chapter because it allows us to utilize donor dollars for items other than bringing in volunteers from across the country to staff the shelters.”

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
