The Bismarck City Commission has approved a recommendation to authorize the city administration to enter into exclusive negotiations with Oak View Group (OVG) for third-party management of the Bismarck Event Center. This decision represents a significant step forward in the city's strategy to optimize venue operations, enhance the customer experience, and bring world-class entertainment and events to the region while ensuring responsible stewardship of this important community asset.
The transition to professional third-party management aligns with the city's core objectives of maximizing the Event Center's potential as both an entertainment destination and economic driver for Bismarck. By partnering with an experienced venue management company, the city aims to leverage specialized expertise in booking and operations to attract higher-profile events, improve operational efficiency, and generate increased revenue while maintaining the facility's role as a cornerstone of community programming and local events.
"I'm excited about the City Commission's decision to move forward with exclusive negotiations with Oak View Group,” said Bismarck Mayor Michael Schmitz. “This represents a tremendous opportunity for Bismarck to elevate our Event Center to new heights and attract world-class entertainment that our residents deserve. We've had very positive conversations with OVG leadership, and they've provided excellent clarity regarding their recent developments and strategic direction. Their proven track record in venue management gives us confidence that this partnership will deliver enhanced programming, improved operations, and significant economic benefits for our community. I look forward to working with our city administration as we finalize the details of this important agreement."
Following a competitive and transparent bidding process, OVG was selected based on its experience in the marketplace, proficiency managing multi-venue accounts and establishing markets as a top destination for business, tourism, large-scale events, and conferences.
The exclusive negotiation period will allow both parties to finalize operational details, performance metrics, and contract terms that serve the best interests of Bismarck residents and Event Center stakeholders. City administration will provide regular updates to the Commission and community as negotiations progress, with a final agreement expected to be presented for formal approval in the coming months.
