[ARCHIVED] South Washington Street Reconstruction Update from Knife River Corporation

Knife River Corporation Logo

Dear Residents,

First and foremost, we would like to thank each and every resident for their abundance of understanding and patience during this construction season and throughout the process of the South Washington St. reconstruct.

As the season and project are quickly winding down, we wanted to inform you of upcoming, permanent traffic pattern changes within the project. As some of you may have noticed already, Washington St. starting at Munich Dr. and heading south will drop from 2 lanes north/south to 1 lane in order to tie into the project’s traffic lanes, along with this northbound traffic will have a right turn only lane onto Billing Dr. directly after the bridge crossing the drainage field, expanding back to 2 northbound lanes after this point. Also, there will be a traffic signal installed at the Washington St. and Santa Fe/London Ave. intersection, we expect this signal to be operational within the next 2 weeks. The speed limits will be as follows: 35MPH on Burleigh Ave. & Washington St. north of Burleigh Ave. while Washington St. south of the roundabout will be 40MPH. The speed limits will include a 20MPH school zone around Solheim Elementary and 15MPH within the roundabout bounds. Please be aware of and observe all new and existing traffic signage and guidance.

Please also be aware that there will be additional work taking place on this project in the 2025 construction season. This work will include final land scaping, such as planting trees and placing rock, chip seal on Burleigh Ave. as well as miscellaneous repair and adjustment items.

Once again, we understand that construction and road work specifically can be disruptive to your daily routines and may have caused some frustration throughout the season. We appreciate your cooperation during this period of improvement and hope the project has created a safer, more efficient travel network in the area.
