BISMARCK, ND—The Bismarck Fire Department extinguished a fire at a single-family home in North Bismarck on Sunday evening.
At approximately 6:09 PM on September 29, 2024, the Bismarck Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at a home on the 1500 block of N 15th St. Bismarck fire crews were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at 6:11 PM, to find heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the single-family home. Fire crews pulled hose lines to the back of the house and worked to extinguish a fire they found involving the wood deck and vinyl wall siding. As additional fire crews arrived, they searched the inside of the house and confirmed everyone was out. When the fire was extinguished, they overhauled the scene to find and put out any smoldering materials.
Heavy fire damage was caused to the wood decking and vinyl siding at the rear side of the house. Fire damage also extended to the eve and into the attic space above the fire area and there was smoke damage throughout the attic. There was limited fire damage to the interior of the house.
A fire investigation found that the cause of the fire was accidental and involved improper disposal of smoking materials into a plastic pail.
