[ARCHIVED] Police Identify Man in Shooting from Late Last Month

Keanu Bird, 21, of Bismarck has died over the weekend in a Minnesota hospital from complications related to a gunshot wound.  Bird was shot after allegedly stabbing a 23-year-old man in the 2600 block of E Ave F around 2:10 am on December 15th.

 

Officers responded to an apartment around 2:10 am on December 15th, 2023, regarding subjects pounding on a door and screaming for help. Around the same time, a call came into Central Dakota Communications regarding a stabbing victim going to a local hospital.  

 

Officers arrived at both locations and located Bird at the apartment with a gunshot wound to the chest.  The officers found the 23-year-old at a local hospital with stab wounds.  Interviews of witnesses indicated that the 23-year-old was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen while hanging out at the apartment.   The witnesses said that he shot Bird after being stabbed, indicating that he was acting in self-defense.

 

Bird was airlifted to a hospital in Minnesota for continued treatment and died there due to complications.  The case remains open and active while documents and evidence are gathered.  An Attempted Murder warrant that was issued for Bird is no longer active.
