WHAT: May 2023 Program “Complete History of Bismarck: ND Frontier to Metropolis”

WHERE: Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library, Meeting Room A

BISMARCK, ND—The Bismarck Historical Society will be hosting a program at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library Meeting Room A on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. The program highlighting the author of a pair of historical community books begins at 6:30 PM.

The topic of this presentation is “Complete History of Bismarck: ND Frontier to Metropolis”. The presenter for the event, Randy Hoffman, will provide background for the two historical books (The Bismarck-Mandan Encyclopedia, a more casual reference book, and The Complete History of Bismarck, North Dakota, a deeper narrative) he has written about the community. His presentation will walk attendees through the motivation behind publishing the books, as well as the 10 years of research that laid the foundation for the publications.

Hoffman has ties to Bismarck dating back more than a century when his family moved to Bismarck in 1893. Hoffman’s Great-Great Grandfather, Nils H. Lovin, owned a contracting business that built commercial and residential buildings in the community through the 1940s. Nils also served terms on the City Commission and Planning Commission.

The presentation is offered at no cost. Discounted copies of the books will be available for sale. For more information about the Bismarck Historical Society, visit them online. If you have suggestions for upcoming presentations, please contact the organization via email
