[ARCHIVED] City of Bismarck to Celebrate Arbor Day May 6

Arbor Day 2022

BISMARCK, N.D. – The Bismarck Forestry Division will host a community recognition program and ceremonial tree planting Friday, May 6, 2022 at 1:00 PM, at Custer Park, 320 E Custer Park St., Bismarck. The public is welcome and invited to attend. The 2022 Arbor Day theme is: “Planting Trees Since 1872”.

Each year a ceremonial Arbor Day tree is dedicated to a local citizen whose efforts have made a significant contribution to Bismarck's urban forest. The 2022 ceremonial tree planting will be dedicated in recognition of Jeff Heintz, Public Works Service Operations Director, for his 33 years of exemplary service to the community of Bismarck and its urban forest.

The Arbor Day Ceremony will include Apple Seed Awards presented for 2021 landscape beautification efforts on public property, recognition of the Champion Trees Project that was recently completed, and recognition of 2021 Partners in Planting sponsors; community minded organizations that have partnered with the City to provide funds for a matching grant to help home owners plant street trees. Bismarck will also be celebrating 45 years as a Tree City USA.

Mayor Bakken will be in attendance to read the Arbor Day Proclamation and give remarks.  Presentations by Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Elementary 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will round out the event.

The tree planting will take place (weather permitting) at the close of the program.
