[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to single-family house fire

Residential Fire Update

BISMARCK, ND – At approximately 10:10 AM on Sunday, April 3, 2022, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a fire at a house on the 1200 block of North 12th Street.  The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. The first arriving fire crew arrived on scene to find a single-family home with smoke showing from the front door and the resident outside on the front lawn.

The fire crew established command, and spoke with the resident who confirmed that the fire was in the kitchen of the home, and that a dog and cat were unaccounted for.  The fire crew pulled a hose line and went in through the front door.  The fire crew found the seat of the fire in the kitchen and were able to quickly extinguish it.  As additional fire crews arrived on-scene they assisted with searching the house, establishing a water supply, and securing the utilities.  When house was ventilated of smoke an overhaul operation was conducted to find any remaining smoldering materials.

Six fire department apparatus and 17 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.  The Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control.  Metro Area Ambulance provided medical support.  Crisis Care Chaplaincy and the American Red Cross are providing support to the home owner.  There were no injuries to the home owner or to first responders.  The dog was found unharmed outside of the home while fire crews were not able to locate the cat.  Fire damage was limited to the room of origin and there was smoke damage throughout the home.  A fire investigation was conducted and the cause was determined to be accidental.
