The City of Bismarck – Historic Preservation Commission will be providing a public meeting on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. in the Tom Baker Meeting Room, City-County Building, 221 North 5th Street, Bismarck, North Dakota. The meeting will include a presentation on the draft National Register of Historic Place (NRHP) Nomination of the proposed Highland Acres historic district. At the meeting, the Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission will provide an opportunity for all interested parties to be heard with respect to this item.
The NRHP is the nation’s list of properties and places considered worthy of preservation. The documentation process for listing demonstrates that the resource is significant in some aspect of the nation’s history. The City of Bismarck currently has two recognized historic districts: The Downtown Bismarck Historic District and the Cathedral Area Historic District. The nomination for the proposed Highland Acres Historic District is expected to be submitted for National Park Service review and possible acceptance in June 2022.
The agenda packet for the meeting, which will include the most recent draft of the proposed Highland Acres nomination, will be posted online at www.bismarcknd.gov, under Agendas and Minutes/Historic Preservation Commission, by the end of the day on Friday, February 11th. The meeting will also be aired live on Government Access – Cable Channel 2 and can be viewed on-line at freetv.org under Government Access/Historic-Preservation-Commission/.
