Due to high runoff, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is continuing increased releases of water from Garrison Dam. Rainfall amounts increase the potential for street flooding.
Stormwater
Be aware that during rainfall events the potential exists for street flooding. Surface water may pool on streets until it is able to flow into the drainage system. Drainage may be slowed because of the higher river level. Please avoid driving on flooded streets. Your car may stall and the wave action can cause damage to adjacent properties.
The drainage ditch storm water gate located at Washington Street is being closed this evening and pumping from the East side of Washington Street to the Missouri River is anticipated to begin late this evening. Water will be pumped from the drainage ditch to the river to provide storage capacity in the drainage ditch in case of potential rainfall events.
Voluntary water use restrictions requested Citizens are asked to voluntarily limit their water use to help ease water flows to the waste water treatment plant during this flood event.
Sump Pump DrainageCitizens are asked to direct their sump pump drainage into their yards, away from their homes and into the street so that the water will drain into the storm sewers on the street. Please DO NOT drain sump pumps into floor drains. This overburdens the sanitary sewer and causes sewer backups.
