Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes or have prediabetes? If so, you may benefit from the National Diabetes Prevention Program. The National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a lifestyle change intervention arming you with skills to make lasting lifestyle changes to lose weight and reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes.
A trained lifestyle coach will help you all the way, and you will have fun and support from others with similar goals in the program. An individual with prediabetes can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes by making simple lifestyle changes such as incorporating healthier food choices and more movement throughout the day.
Type 2 diabetes has increased significantly over the past ten years. Over 50,000 North Dakota adults have type 2 diabetes. An even more astonishing number is 160,000. The number of North Dakota adults with prediabetes, making the National DPP vital to reversing the upward trend of type 2 diabetes.
Eligible participants are: at least 18 years old, overweight, are not pregnant, and do not currently have diabetes. Interested participants are encouraged to check with their health care provider to find out if they have prediabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes.
Program participants learn how to eat healthy, be more physically active, manage stress, stay motivated, and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes.
Participants meet for a year [weekly for 13 weeks, twice a month for 4 months and then once a month for 4 months]. Together participants celebrate their successes and find ways to overcome obstacles.
