[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to small garage fire

At approximately 10:56 AM on Monday, February 11, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a fire at a home on the 800 block of North 16th Street.  The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate.  The first arriving fire crew reported a single family home with smoke showing from the garage.  The fire crew established command and made contact with the home owner and a Bismarck Police Officer who reported that they had extinguished most of the fire with hand held fire extinguishers.  The fire crew went in to investigate and extinguished the remaining fire and smoldering materials with a handheld fire extinguisher. The fire crew then conducted an overhaul operation and ventilated the garage. 

Six fire department apparatus and 18 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.  Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control.  Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support.

The home owner was present when the fire occurred.  There were no injuries to any of the occupants.  There were no injuries to first responders.  There was moderate smoke damage to the interior of the garage and fire damage was limited to a motorcycle and a snow blower.  The area of origin was identified as a propane fueled space heater.  The cause of the fire has been classified as accidental.
