[ARCHIVED] City of Bismarck Missouri River monitoring update

The City of Bismarck continues to closely monitor Missouri River conditions, river levels and official release information being provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

According to official Corps reports, releases from Garrison Dam this afternoon remain at approximately 60,000 cfs. The current gage reading is at 13.1 feet. “It appears on the river gage that things seem to be leveling off,” said Jeff Heintz, Director, Bismarck Public Works Service Operations. Burleigh County is operating the Tavis Road flood control structure to draw down the stormwater ditch and to protect the Waste Water Treatment plant.

The City is prepared, has a flood response and action plan in place, ready to execute in advance of potential flood response events and continues to work closely in coordination with local response agencies in a coordinated effort. “No changes are currently expected from the Corps, our structures look good, gates are functional. We’ll continue to follow our flood response plan, and stand in readiness to act as the need arises,” Heintz said.

Additional information regarding Missouri River Levels and Garrison Dam Releases may be found at www.bismarcknd.gov.

Burleigh County is continuing with response actions as designated in their Flood Annex. Burleigh County continues to maintain two, self-fill sandbag stations at the Hogue Island Boat Ramp and on Fox Island’s Shoreline Circle. For more information visit www.burleighco.com.
