[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to fire at radio tower

At approximately 3:24 PM on May 25, 2018, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a utility building on fire at the base of a radio tower on the 3500 block of East Rosser Avenue.  The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate.  The first arriving fire crew reported an enclosure that housed a radio antenna and a single story, 10’ x 10’ utility building, with heavy smoke and some fire showing from the exterior of the utility building.  The fire crew established command and went to investigate.  The fire crew made contact with staff from the radio station who advised them that the utility building housed signal matching equipment which used high voltage electrical current.  Fire crews established a perimeter and contacted Capital Electric Co-operative to shut off power to the building.  Once power was shut off to the building fire crews were able to extinguish the fire.  An overhaul operation was conducted to search for smoldering materials.  Five fire department apparatus and 14 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.  Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control.  There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters.  The cause of this fire is currently classified as undetermined.
