projectHope-web cr. 2018

Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health (BBPH) is joining in support of celebrating “Project Hope”, a community wellness event, in collaboration with the Bismarck Cancer Society to provide awareness about cancers prevalent in North Dakota. As part of this collaborative effort, BBPH staff will distribute colorectal cancer screening kits “Fit Kits” free of charge to the public during the week of May 7-11, to build awareness about cancer prevention and early detection.

“Please pick up a “Fit Kit” this week and take control of your health,” said Betsy Kanz, BBPH Health Services Program Coordinator. “Regular screening is one of the best ways to catch bowel irregularities and pre-cancers early, when they are easier to treat,” said Kanz.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends regular screening for colorectal cancer starting at age 50. However, younger adults may also be at risk, especially if they have the following risk factors: a close relative who has or had polyps or colorectal cancer, a history of inflammatory bowel disease, or a family history of genetic syndromes causing colon polyps.

Stop by Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health today for more information about “Fit Kits”, colorectal cancer screening, and “Project Hope” week. This quick and easy colorectal cancer screening could save your life! BBPH is located at 500 E. Front Ave., Bismarck.
