Yesterday the Bismarck Police advised the public of individuals who were going door to door and falsely telling the resident that they were representing Midcontinent Communications.
According to some reports, the suspects were telling residents they work for HD Services or HD Incorporated and need to come into the house to check Midcontinent equipment. Residents reported that if left alone, they found the individuals in different rooms of the house where no cable equipment was located.
The Bismarck Police Department did make contact with two individuals who claimed to be working for HD Satellite and have been sub-contracted by Direct TV to upgrade current customers and attempt to sell service contracts to new ones. A check into this claim found it to be true, however, it was also determined that HD Satellite does not have a permit to sell door to door within Bismarck city limits.
According to the area manager, HD Satellite does plan to apply for a door to door sales permit for Bismarck. Until they have been approved for a permit, HD Satellite should not be conducting door to door business within city limits.
It is unknown if any legitimate representatives of HD Satellite were those claiming to represent Midcontinent Communications.
