[ARCHIVED] Hepatitis Testing Day May 19

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month and May 19 is Hepatitis Testing Day. Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is providing a hepatitis C test at no cost, May 19, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Results are available in twenty minutes. Call 355-1540 for an appointment.

Hepatitis C is a leading cause of liver cancer. Millions of Americans have hepatitis C, but most don’t know it. All baby boomers (born between 1945 and 1965) and current and past injection drug users should be tested for hepatitis C.

Millions of Americans are living with hepatitis C, but up to seventy five percent of people don’t know it. People can live with hepatitis for decades without having symptoms or feeling sick. Hepatitis C testing is not part of routine blood work. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends all people born from 1945 – 1965 get tested for hepatitis C. Early detection can save lives.

Take five minutes to answer a series of questions and find out if you are at risk, using the Center for Disease Control’s online Hepatitis Risk Assessment. Visit www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/RiskAssessment.

Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health employs public health professionals who work to protect the health of the population. We serve all residents of Bismarck and Burleigh County.
