[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Police Search for Missing Boa Constrictor

The Bismarck Police Department is searching a home on the 400 block of North 20th Street where an eight foot boa constrictor escaped its enclosure sometime overnight. Police believe the snake is most likely still somewhere inside the home. Police have gone door to door in the immediate area, informing neighbors about the missing snake, and are now informing the general public.

If you see the snake, please call the Bismarck Police Department at 223-1212.

The snake was in its enclosure last night when the residents went to bed. This morning they realized the snake had gotten out of its enclosure sometime overnight. They searched the house, and when they couldn’t find it, they contacted Bismarck Police Animal Control. Due to the extreme conditions of the interior of the house, there are many hiding areas the snake could be in, or may have been able to get into the duct work.

Boa constrictors are not venomous. They usually hunt small rodents, and usually are not dangerous to humans. They rely on their mood/behavior to regulate their body temperature. They are cold-blooded, but can increase their body temperature through sunbathing. They usually stay on the ground, due to their size, and are most often found up in trees.
