[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department Responds to Explosion and Fire

At 2:34 pm the Bismarck Fire Department responded to residence at 503 South Anderson Street for a report of an explosion in a garage.

Upon arrival, firefighters found fire coming from the rear of the attached double garage, with the garage doors bulged out. Firefighters used multiple hose lines to attack the fire. The fire had extended into the attic of the garage and house, but firefighters were able to stop the fire before a significant portion of the home’s attic was involved.

The residents were home at the time of the incident but were not in the garage and no one was injured. The residents were able to evacuate before the firefighters arrived on scene.

The occupants will be displaced from the home, and were referred by the Fire Department Chaplain to the Red Cross to provide temporary housing assistance.

There was heavy damage to the garage, along with the roof and attic of the house immediately adjoining the garage. Preliminary fire loss estimates exceed $65,000. The cause of the explosion and fire remains under investigation.
