Memorials

Memorial gifts offer a simple and meaningful way to honor a loved one. Memorial gifts are typically deposited into the Endowment Fund, with annual fund distributions directly benefiting the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library. Memorial gifts can also be designated for special purchases, such as books.

Gifts Made by Will

Including the Library Foundation in your will helps ensure the continuation of quality library services for years to come. The following language is suggested: "I give, devise, and bequeath to the Bismarck Library Foundation, Inc. of Bismarck, North Dakota (insert a stated sum or percentage of estate)." Laws regarding wills and estates are subject to change over time. It's best to have an attorney draft your will to ensure it accomplishes your intended purpose.

Life Insurance

Naming the Library Foundation as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy allows you to make a sizable future donation at a relatively low annual cost. You can deduct the value of the policy as a charitable gift, and your premiums are also deductible. In addition, the policy proceeds paid to the Foundation are not taxable to your estate.

Stock

Gifts of appreciated stock are one of the most tax-savvy ways to help the Library.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Charitable gift annuities are available to the Library Foundation through the North Dakota Community Foundation. You may give cash or an asset, such as a stock or certificate of deposit, and receive a lifetime annual payment, which is partly taxable and partly tax-free. Upon the death of the donor, the remaining principal becomes part of the Foundation's Endowment Fund.

Charitable Trusts

Gifts to a charitable trust for the Library Foundation can provide a lifetime income to you or income to the Library Foundation for the term of the trust.

Remainder Trusts

This trust provides you with a lifetime income and an immediate tax deduction. You also have control of the trust, subject to its terms, during your lifetime. The Library Foundation receives the trust upon your death.

Lead Trusts

This trust provides the Library Foundation with immediate income, but you or your heirs may receive the trust assets at the end of a specified term of years. You receive a larger immediate income tax deduction.
