Memorials

Memorial gifts offer a simple and meaningful way to honor a loved one. Memorial gifts generally go into the Endowment Fund, with annual fund distributions directly benefiting Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library. Memorial gifts can also be designated for a special purchase, such as books.

Gifts Made by Will

Mentioning the Bismarck Library Foundation in your will helps ensure quality library services for years to come. The following language is suggested: "I give, devise and bequeath to the Bismarck Library Foundation, Inc. of Bismarck, North Dakota (insert a stated sum or percentage of estate)." Laws regarding wills and estates change from time to time. It's best to have an attorney draft your will to make sure it will accomplish your intended purpose.

Life Insurance

Naming the Bismarck Library Foundation, Inc as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy allows you to make a sizable future donation at a relatively low annual cost. You can deduct the value of the policy as a charitable gift and your premiums are deductible as well. In addition, the policy proceeds paid to the Foundation are not taxable to your estate.

Stock

Gifts of appreciated stock are one of the most tax-savvy ways to help the Library.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Charitable gift annuities are available to the Bismarck Library Foundation through the North Dakota Community Foundation. You may give cash or an asset, such as a stock or certificate of deposit, and receive a lifetime annual payment, which is partly taxable and partly tax-free. Upon death, the remaining principal becomes part of the Foundation's Endowment Fund.

Charitable Trusts

Gifts in a charitable trust to the Bismarck Library Foundation can provide lifetime income to you or income to the Foundation for the term of the trust.

Remainder Trusts

This trust gives you income for life and an immediate tax deduction. You also have control of the trust, subject to its terms, during your lifetime. The Bismarck Library Foundation receives the trust upon your death.

Lead Trusts

This trust gives the Bismarck Library Foundation immediate income, but you or your heirs may receive the trust assets at the end of a term of years. You receive a larger immediate income tax deduction.
